Rental properties are a convenient option to accommodate a larger family or a longer stay in Puerto Rico. From condos and apartments to entire villas, rentals come in every shape, size, and price.

Villas might be better suited to long stays or large groups. In fact, some couples hold their wedding at a rented villa, where family members can stay as well. If you're looking for something a little smaller, perhaps for a single family, consider a condo or apartment.

Even though luxurious rental options are available, renting a property for a long stay can help to keep costs down. Budget-conscious travelers can find something in any price range. And, of course, having your own kitchen can help you save money by giving you a place to store food and drink and to cook your own meals.

On the other hand, some of the drawbacks of renting are also clear: The property may lack such amenities as a convenient location, a swimming pool, and maid services. Still, some people like the autonomy of staying in a rental and are glad to avoid the crowds of the more popular hotels and areas.

Travelers should definitely keep one thing in mind: Most rental properties are booked as much as a year in advance for the holiday season (Christmas through New Year's). Make plans early to ensure you get the Puerto Rico vacation rental of your dreams any time of year.
