Attractions in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico's natural beauty is just one of many qualities that bring travelers to the island's shores. Plentiful attractions make visiting this island a must for so many of its vacationers, but the top two reasons most travelers make Puerto Rico their vacation destination are beaches and casinos.

Beaches

Puerto Rico's beaches range from crowded, tourist-heavy shores where water sports are as common as souvenir stands to intimate sea-side spots where it's just you and the waves. Of course, there are plenty of beach options in between as well.

San Juan is home to many of the island's most popular beaches, so those who don't want to fight the crowds may choose to leave the city to find a little privacy. But San Juan's popular beaches are excellent spots to relax and people-watch. These beaches are also home to plenty of other activities, including snorkeling and other water sports.

The western portion of the island is best known for surfing. The beaches offer breaks for those who seek something new. However, these are concentrated around the northwestern corner of the island where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Caribbean Sea.

The southern and eastern shores of the island have beautiful beaches, often with wonderful snorkeling and few waves. These beaches are also often ecological wonderlands, perfect for camping or just a day of relaxing.

Casinos

Puerto Rico is one of the few places in the United States where gambling is legal, but vacationers should be aware of the gaming regulations before participating in games of chance. In fact, the only place you can play such games on the island are in hotels and resorts.

Whether you've run a through a lucky streak or you come home empty-handed, you will be expected to dress to the nines for your gambling experience. Casinos in Puerto Rico are extremely upscale, so dress accordingly. You can also enjoy music and other forms of entertainment at island casinos, if taking risks is not in your plans.

Landmarks

Nature

If you want to get out and explore all that Puerto Rico has to offer, you won't be disappointed in the slightest.  Puerto Rico has a very diverse topography, and visitors can explore both tropical and dry forests, flatlands, and mountains.  Check out one of the island's state parks to make the most out of your natural explorations such as El Yunque Rainforest.  You won't want to miss the mysterious bioluminescent bays, where as night falls, the waters begin to glow bright white.

Throughout Puerto Rico, there are numerous facilities for active travelers.  Some examples include stables that take visitors on tours of the area on horseback and facilities that operate ziplines suspended through the forest.  Places that facilitate rock climbing tours, ATV tours, and mountain biking tours are popular on the island as well.   These tours will allow you the opportunity to visit natural attractions in a more thrilling manner. 

Even if beaches or casinos are not what you're looking for in a vacation, you will easily find many other reasons to visit the dynamic island of Puerto Rico. Still, relaxing on one of the island's beautiful beaches or passing through a glamorous casino can be two unforgettable highlights for many vacationers who come here.
