Electrical connections in Puerto Rico are 110 and 120 volts AC (60 cycle), and the outlets take the same two-prong plugs found in the United States, so visitors from Europe will need to remember transformers or adapters.

Electrical service is provided by the Puerto Rico Electrical Power Authority (PREPA), known in Spanish as the"Autoridad de Energía Eléctrica." As the second-largest government-owned utility in the United States, PREPA recently underwent a five-year, $1.6 billion capital improvement and expansion program. The power service on Puerto Rico is reliable, and outages are few.
